Depositions from casey anthony trial
Court documents show Dorothy Clay Sims will appear as co-counsel for the defense. According to her law firm's website, Sims focuses on direct and cross-examination of medical experts. She will join Casey's attorneys Jose Baez and J. Cheney Mason. The prosecution must finish their expert witness depositions by September The deadline for depositions for all other witnesses is October The next status hearing is scheduled for September Casey Anthony's defense team lined up 35 witnesses to question Friday.
They were all law enforcement officers. That means dozens of cops were off the street Friday, sitting in an office away from their duties. Some of the officers spent hours just sitting and waiting.
The 35 law enforcement officers had no choice; they were subpoenaed. Some sat here for hours, not knowing when they'd be called for their depositions. One of the psychiatrists, Jeff Danziger, says the results of a psychological test Anthony took were normal, something he regarded as surprising.
Casey Anthony, 25, was acquitted last July of killing her 2-year-old daughter in a widely publicized trial. She is currently serving a year of probation at an undisclosed location in Florida on a check fraud charge. Transcripts of the deposition had been sealed, but the Orlando Sentinel asked the court to make them public and a judge unsealed them. The depositions of Dr. Jeffrey Danziger and Dr. William Weitz vividly describe what Anthony told her doctors about the alleged sexual abuse by her father and the alleged drowning death of her daughter.
Weitz, a psychologist, gave depositions to lawyers in early , but never testified at Anthony's trial last year. Anthony, 25, was acquitted last summer of murder charges in the death of Caylee, 2, but was convicted of four counts of lying to authorities investigating the child's disappearance.
She is living at an undisclosed location in Florida while she serves a one-year probation sentence for her conviction on check fraud charges.
The Orlando Sentinel asked for release of the documents. Anthony said she did not know who Caylee's father was, Weitz told attorneys in April Will Anthony take the money and run? Anthony's mental evaluation unsealed I know in my heart and my gut things are still okay.
Simply this is someone who is sitting in jail. Her child is missing, presumed dead. She's -- while she had not yet been charged with murder, obviously, she's charged with crimes and is being accused by the whole world in the disappearance of the child. You would expect that would provoke some measure of distress, whether someone genuinely did it, whether someone was falsely accused, I mean, it doesn't matter.
If my child was missing and I was in jail and being accused of it, I probably wouldn't eat or wouldn't be cheerful and wouldn't been able to read, which Anthony reportedly was doing just fine. Danzinger's later report, based on psychological tests in October of Casey Anthony, ruled the case would proceed based on her competence, calling the results entirely normal -- certainly no signs of exaggerations or amplification.
The documents also reveal that she believes she became pregnant with Caylee during a date rape at a party in the fall of Anthony said she attended a party that fall, as a single woman, and was the victim of a spiked drink because she blacked out. Got pregnant, had the baby. Took two beers, possibly given another drug. Woke up passed out unclothed bottom. Don't remember anything at a party.
