I was thinking of trying to pick up the Diablo battle chest that has D2 with the expansion, since I have never owned a pc boxed game, I thought it would be cool to get the battlechest. My only concern is I run Windows 10 and I'm not sure if I would be able to install it on win I know I can just buy and download it from battle.

I don't know if you can install from the cd and run on windows 10 you would need to get it to run enough to patch itself up to the new version, maybe try running it in compatibility mode and add -w to the shortcut target line to launch into windowed mode just to open battle net so it can update itself. You can also take the cd key from a physical game put it onto your account at battle.

I assume I can do that with the expansion too right? Yes, you'd be able to do it with both. Diablo 2 should install just fine, although I would try to get the patch for it before playing it.
