Unfortunately you didn't mention the OS, which you reinstall onto the nForce2 chipset system. The last driver version is 5. A crossover CAT6 cable was used to connect the server to each system. A full explanation can be found here. In the disk access time department, things are pretty even.

What can I say? I agree if going analog. The output stage on an Aud2 is better than the output most all MB manufacturers include. And I agree if going analog the Aud2 is a more flexible gaming card. But I also asked if you could see any reason someone going digital would choose an Aud2 over an Nforce solution.

If going digital to a HT receiver with an an Aud2 all your gaming will be stereo. Everything else is likely equal as the decoding is done by the reciever and not the card. So in my view it is advantage Nforce in this case. So in the end I guess it depends on what and how you are connecting your sound solution with that will decide how good Nforce is for you. Getting slightly off topic. What is your speaker solution. But from my perspective. I hate to see MBs step backwards to the point where soundcards become necessary again.

With a mobile Athlon running 2. You pretty much hit on it at the end. They apparently decided that more people would be served by having a firewall running at all times on the hardware level than would be served by integrating a sound controller with full DD encoding. Lot of good that extra die space did for me…. No worries about crap analog components. No hums or hiss picked up from the environment. Straight Digital into a decent HT receiver. Nforce was the only one that allows multichannel gaming, Through Dolby Digital encoding.

There currently is still no sound card that can duplicate that feat. With NForce it is a low cost add in. An awesome feature that will be missed by I guess must be few of us who used it.

You clearly love pointing out every little detail. Kind of like spell checking. Makes me lazy. The Nforce can also supports dual LAN but how many mainboards actually impliment it? Just because a chipset supports something does not mean that you can use it! Just because your non-soundstorm MCP-T board has all the soundstorm features does not mean they all do!

And of course its not the MCP-T on an Nforce1, as much as you like to think you have both soundstorm and the MCP-T on your Nforce1 I think maybe you ought to do a bit of research before posting your hard facts! Seems you are not being completely accurate. It has no digital out!! Why have those boards not been submitted to NV? Do you know whether the soundstorm certification has any quality tests? Do you even know what tests or features are required in order to gain soundstorm certification?

I own an N-force1 also and an Nforce2 and it encodes Dolby digital, it has low CPU overhead, and I run the latest "soundstorm" drivers, yet it is not a "soundstorm" mainboard. Just because the Nforce chip CAN do all these wonderful things does not mean that mainboard makers impliment them. If you have a soundstorm certified board then they have at least implimented all the audio features of the chipset! I'm really giving up this time you are making statements as if they are facts.

The high end versions generally all have the MCP-T which is soundstorm. I can't understand where we are not seeing things eye to eye.

Soundstorm IS a marketing term it means a product has met certain stds set by NV. You are trying to make it something it is not, a piece of hardware! The funny thing is I use an Nforce "soundstorm" Abit NF7-S in the exact same way you do hooked up to a receiver , I think its great and I'm sure a non "soundstorm" Nforce2 would be equally good, that would not make it a soundstorm however, unless I invited NV round to my house to certify it!

In case you are not aware. Soundstorm has just become common parlance for the MCP-T features. When someone wants a soundstorm board. The almost certainly want MCP-T features. It is a marketing moniker in common usage. While I have an NF1 that predates soundstorm. I still consider that I have soundstorm. Because for every purpose and every feature it is identical. Except for a sticker on a box. Now when someone says they want soundstorm are they interested in capabilities or a sticker?

I am betting he wanted the features and was not aware soundstorm is only a certification. Perhaps some lower tier guys use the MCP-T without the certification, but who cares.

It is the MCP-T that counts not the certification. Somebody complained about a lack of soundstorm boards, you said "there are loads" or words to that effect when you actually meant that there are loads of MCP-T boards around. Soundstorm certification was introduced with the Nforce2 because with the Nforce1 many boards did not take full advantage of the onboard audio, Soundstorm certification was introduced in order to guarantee a minimum number of features on your "Soundstorm" board, whereas just having the MCP-T does not mean you will have those min features, also at one point there was talk about guaranteeing a min quality on the DACS for soundstorm certified boards but I have not seen anything about that since the launch.

Its not unreasonable for people to assume that when you talk about soundstorm you mean soundstorm. Sorta akin to WHQL certifiated drivers, which the drivers were throughly were tested by MS to make sure they can work without any problems on almost every known configration. Althought, you can use still non-WHQL drivers without any problems or have a motherboard with MCP-T but, lacks intergrated digital output or fails to meet the rigid fidelity requirements for cerification.

What does SS certification add? MCP-T is a piece of hardware!! Soundstorm is a certification or a qualification. I may have two legs but that does not qualify me for the Olympic m LOL.
